It seems to me that both of these sets of photographs are about our longing for an ideal of "wilderness", but the older generations aesthetic is calm and serene while the other is raw and savage. I wonder if that's because we are even more distanced from direct experience with nature (farming, undiscovered land). Or maybe it's that our experiences are more mediated by technology. The photographer I was trying to think of last week is Justine Kurland. You should REALLY check out her work! I think it's a good match for what you're working with.
